hello again and thanks for responses...took box off worked on adjusting pad and then put it back seems that I have I leak coming from the expansion plug.....took it off again and decided to tap around the edges of the plug with a cold chisel to set it better then cleaned it well and applied silicon so far no leaks but it is not pressured up...or is there any pressure there ...seems that this oil is just for lubrication and not a pressure hydraulic situation..... has anyone done this..what do you think....thanks...ken

The 340U is a slightly different critter than most, it uses a hydraulic booster on the standard mechanical steering system. The steering box with the expansion plug is just a storage resevoir for the lube. Just like non-power steering, No pressure. The power part of the steering is the "can" like piston on the right hand side of the steering unit. It contains a piston and uses a rack and gear to help move the mechanical portion of the steering gear. The hydraulic portion gets it's fluid from the hyd system on the tractor. The mechanical part still has to be filled and maintained just the same as if it was non-power steering. If my explaination hasn't confused you enough e-mail me and I'll try to confuse you some more.
