Hi, I am wondering if any of you people out their know how I to take the PTO shaft off by the knuckles just in front of the gear box on this mower. Because what I need to do is once upon a time someone shortened the PTO shaft up. And now after I have put this mower on my F-14 it is too short and barely overlaps, and comes apart whenever the PTO is put in gear. Does anyone know if I have to take the belt pulley off behind the gearbox and slide the shaft thru? Or does someone know how else it could be done? Thanks in Advance!!! Mike

Take the plug out where you put oil in the gear box ,there is a hole there so you can stick a punch in there to lock the shaft and unscrew the driveline. They are left hand threads on the yoke.

I have an owners manual for the No. 27 mower. It has parts diagrams and parts lists like a parts catalog. It shows that the universal joint yoke (at the rear end of the PTO shaft) just in front of the mower drive is threaded. Therefore, you should be able to unscrew it from the mower drive shaft. If you have universal joints apart, stick a bar though the holes in the yoke and give a few sharp raps with a hammer in direction opposite to rotation. That should break it loose so you can unscrew it.

I believe there is a pin you can drive out. I'll have to look and see if I can remember. You can get some pto shaft male and female at a farm store and add it onto the shaft you now have, works sometimes and sometime doesn't if you are a better welder than me it will probably work fine.

Well the first thing I looked for on the mower was a pin that could be pounded out just in front of the gearbox. And I could not see one, it may have just blended in that good. I have got a parts mower availabe that I can just switch whatever I have too. I also had though about doing like you said and just extending it, but I kinda want that to be a last resort. Thanks Again
