How to tell apart Farmall 200 and 230

I just bought a Farmall 200 SN#6927J and I'm wondering how you would tell it apart from a 230 serial number if you had to. The only thing I can read on the serial number plate are the stamped numbers. The grill in the tractor looks like it might have had white paint on it at one time, but the side emblems are 200's. The tractor has no fast hitch on it and does have a wide front. Are there any other defining features that would differentiate a 200 from a 230? Also, what does the "J" stand for in the serial number. Is it similar to the model M where it means it has a Rockford Clutch? Thanks.

The engine serial number, which is cast on the right side of the block, would help identify it. Engine serial numbers for the 200 could be anywhere in between 501-36000. 230 engine serial numbers ran from 36001 to 65000.

Zack, yes the "J" does mean that you have Rockford clutch. I also have a 200 that I'm trying restore.

It's probably a 200, lot's were painted with 230 white accents to look up-to-date.

Fairly obvious stuff:
- 200 emblems and all red vs 230 emblems and white accents (if still original).
- If it has the same rockshaft arms under the gas tank as a C or Super C, it is most likely a 200, the 230 has hydra touch hydraulics with one or two valves. I've only heard of one 230 that they say was ordered with the earlier touch control hydraulics.
- The 230 has a different style intake manifold with 3 ribs connecting the intake and exhaust portions.

Obvious if you know what to look for stuff:
- The 230 has a different tranny casting with a fairly large flat that comes down under the operators platform for the front of the fast hitch to attach to (fast hitch was redesigned for the 230 and doesn't use the rockshaft through the seat box).
- The 230 has a different torque tube with integral hydra touch reservoir.
- The 230 has a different style air cleaner to match the new manifold.
- The 230 has a different cyl head.
...

Thanks for all the info guys. I checked out everything and it is in fact a 200. The block serial number was a four digit number and the tractor's got the other defining features of the 200. You guys are a fountain of information. Thanks again!!!

One thing that is different is the 230 has a different hyd. system,it does not have the cult.lift in the middle lie the 200.
