Power steering alternatives on an H

I was just wondering what methods folks have come up with to add power steering to an H. To go the Char-Lynn route sounds kind of pricey - even just for the steering shaft motor and brackets alone. I don't mind following a fabricated-from-used-car-parts route if anyone has an alternative.

We have gotten quite proficient at using car pumps for power steering. The Ford Pumps from the early 70's (ALL STEEL NO PLASTIC) will dead head at 1600 PSI while the tractor is idling/dying. GM Pumps do not work as well at lower RPM's but there are a lot more of them out there. I just installed a Char-Lynn steering motor on a 400 with a Ford pump and it turned out as good or better than using the eaton pump. What we discovered is the best comb is the Behlen Motor the 450 used with a Ford Pump. This set up will be better than the Char-Lynn. You need to go with a char-lynn motor if you hope to keep it under the hood. Good Luck

What I'm after is keeping the cost down. Would you know the number of the Behlen Motor? I'm imagining you're setting up the Ford pump on the generator belt. Did you fabricate the mount for the Behlen motor or can you modify the bracket from the 450? You wouldn't have any pics of this setup, would you?

If you dont mind the looks it is easy to mount the BEHLEN next to the steering post also but remember the messy lines running all over. CHAR-LYNN is the neatest as it is all under the hood and realy work good.
