Hi, Last night we drove by a massy dealer, they had a 1952 Super M there. Its has a M&W hand cluth on it. I have never seen one before, i have heard of them though. Are these M&W's A collectors item, or Rare or in that range? They are asking $3000 for it, I didnt start it up to here how she ran. I think the serial# was 4995

They aren't rare in our area, Western, Pa. As to whether or not this makes it valuable, I have found that they are a royal pain. If they get out of adjustment you lose the main clutch. Also the lack of a brake on one side can be an eye opener if you have any hilly ground. Additionally I always had trouble finding replacement parts for them. $3000 is way more than I would ever pay.

Farmallkid: I think you will find they are quite rare in Canada. I remember when I was much younger M & W really never did much marketing in Canada until after the letter series Farmalls. I was quite removed from central Canada in those days, however the very first I heard of this company was in the mid to late 1950's.

I think you will find these are a lot more plentiful south of the border. That is where I first saw one.

I have never seen a Farmall with a hand clutch. I grew up with a hand clutch but we called them John Deeres. What advantage did the hand clutch have on a Farmall? When you released the hand clutch did the PTO continue? Have heard people talk about them on the forum but in the Northwest they didn't seem to be too popular. If you wanted a hand clutch you just bought Green (or Orange as some ACs had them also)

Ya, When you had the hand clutch the pto would keep going if you pulled it back.
