Diesel Injection Woes

I have a 1968 model 656.

It runs good at working RPM. It doesn't smoke at any RPM. Ocassionally it will idle well but most of the time, it surges and won't run at low speeds.

Cold starts require ether. I have checked the glow plugs with an amp meter so I know they are good.

Is there anything I can do short of a rebuilding the pump to help my low speed problems?

I want it to run right, but I hate to rebuild the pump with it still running as good as it does.

It could be a simple as an O-ring on one of the injector lines, or it could be a bad injector.

First, replace all the O-rings. Not a bad idea anyway. If that doesn't help, get yourself ONE new injector. Start at the #1 cylinder. Keep swapping it in until it runs right or you run out of cylinders.

THEN it's time to get the injector pump rebuilt.
