Im confused with this loader tractor project. I going through a 53 SM right now. Ive collected alot of accessories for it like Saginaw 3 pt, Wide front, charlyn PS and finally a very nice IH 2001 loader. My main question is will the live power pump power this loader?? I have heard many yes and no's. Some say I need a seperate pump to power the loader so it will move fast and pick up better. Some say it was made for it and will work fine. Im going to use it mainly for loading and unloading trucks and moving leftover parts suck as M rear ends and such. A round bale is about the heaviest thing I would lift. Thanks for the info.

I had a 2001 on an MTA. I had no problems with hydraulics. The problem I had was with the fact that it is way too much loader for the tractor.
I don't know what the loader weighs alone, but when you do a heavy lift you flatten the front tires and can barely move.

jonsey: If your SM has live pump in the distributor drive it should work fine. You will need the pump in good working order. You didn't say what the tractor has for hydraulic outlet valves. The spool valves could be a problem.

I had a 2000 loader on a 560. When I sold that loader without the tractor, the buyer installed it on a Farmall 300. He first used the 300 built in valves. Later he added a double spool valve ahead of tractors built in system. This gave him more break away presure. On the 300 he was using same pump as your SM. He plumbed this in so the power beyond the valve went to tractors built in system. Made quite a unit 300 with 5 double action valves. If you do this make sure you get a power beyond valve.

Hugh, The tractor doesnt have any external valves. All the pipe fittings coming off the reservoir have plugs except for a hose running to the rear for a remote. I was going to add a single spool valve for the 3 pt and a seperate double spool for the loader.

jonesy: I think I would go for a triple spool valve, should be able to cut down on plumbing.
