Super M-TA and loader

We have a Super M-TA. How many were actually made? One book I saw said 3000, another book said 27000. We have an old loader on it, how much value does it add to the unit? Values I've seen on similar tractors range from $2000 to around $5000. How can I get a more accurate value for our tractor and loader? Obviously, I know very little about this. Where can I get more information on the loader?

Unless your tractor is junk, it is worth a minimum of $2500, at least to a collector, less to someone who just wants a work tractor, more if someone just "has to have it". SMTA's are one of the few Farmalls for which you can actually get most of your money back for a restoration. Only made in 1954, it is a transition between the Stage 2 Super M and the 400.

Dick: The figure of 27,000 is probably the closest figure you quote. I doubt if the loader adds any value. This tractor along with it's counterparts the M, SM, 400 and 450 were known for there excellent reputation in the corn and soybean fields of the great American Mid West. Farmalls were built and engineered as probably the best row crop tractor ever built. They were never known as a great loader tractor. My own personal opinion is the loader actually devalues a Farmall.

It sure devalues it to me! I've used a loader for 15 years and had my share of close calls. I don't care to add one to my MTA and try the same stunts again without ROPS and FOPS.

Interesting... Obviously, the loader does come off. I gather that you are recommending that I remove the loader if I decide to sell the tractor.

Dick: I think you have a number of variables here. If your tractor is a fully restored show tractor, being kept as a colectable the loader adds little, even devalues due to resaons I gave in earlier post. Now if the tractor is a mechanically sound work tractor, the loader may have value. Then you have everything in between the two extreems. If I were advertising this tractor for sale I would price it either with loader or without and point out you will sell loader separately.

When you made your initial post, I viewed it as though you were looking at restoreing this tractor yourself as a show piece. That was the basis of my advice.

Thanks much for the clarification and the help. The tractor will probably be sold, so the idea of pricing them separately is a good one. The tractor is in good shape, I believe, and the TA does seem to work. I know my father-in-law would have liked the idea of it being restored by someone that would appreciate it.
