I just bought a 1939 M, and was wondering how much the later model's changed compared to the early M's?

The better question would be "What WASN'T changed?" Transmission gearing was changed, sheet metal, seats, most of the castings were reinforced and changed to make them easier to cast, cylinder heads were extesnively revised, etc.etc. The tractor was in production for a long long time, and IH wasn't afraid to improve their product.

Steve what is the serial# of your 39 M? I own #1094. The 594th M built. Old timers tell me that the orginal style seat for the 39 were uncomfortable, maybe that's why mine has a later coil spring style seat.I would like to find an original stlye seat but have been told they are quite pricey. Happy tractoring. Tom

Have often wondered how many of the roughly 7000 M's built in 1939 are still out there? Tom
