Need ideas on how to unstick the clutch, short of breaking the tractor in half. Any ideas appreciated even off the wall ideas.

The tractor had been sitting for 6 years. The pressure plate looks new, clean and shinny. Have tried rocking the tractor. Have tried loosening the pressure plate from the flywheel and rocking the tractor.

Thanks all.

I just purchased this cub. Dropped it off in the driveway to pressure spray and change all of the fluids. Had to rewire the tractor. Runs like a top. Everything works (now) except the clutch or could be the pilot bearing.

Gene, the cub uses a graphite block for a throwout bearing. Look through the acces hole under the clutch and make sure the bearing is pusing the pressure plate fingers down. If the previous owner was a clutch rider he may have worn the face off the throwout. If it is moving the fingers as it shoud try blocking the clutch down and spray some brake cleaner in it every day or two. may take a few days.

I done this on a friend's 1970 ford bronco that had been sitting for five years.. Now follow these instructions carefully === Try to get tractor to a fairly decent size tree and attach a chain to drawbar and to tree, put in a fresh battery, put tractor in medium to high gear, push in clutch and hold it down then bump starter with ignition disabled and see if this might create enough torque to break the rust loose. But as always OBSERVE ALL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS..... ...

Might be the pilot brg. It takes an hour to split one of these tractors. Don't tear it up . just split it and fix it right the first time. After you run something over with the stuck clutch, you wish you would have. Let's be safe here.

Stuck clutch on an old dodge truck of mine took some driving around to free it. Just got to driving it around with the clutch in it finally broke free. Be careful, use highest gear you can to load the clutch.

If you have any access to the clutch from underneath you might try carefullly driving a wedge or chisel between the clutch disk and flywheel or pressure plate. Don't know if this can be done. You may not have sufficient access or be able to get a wedge in there.

There is a little access to the bottom of the pressure plate. I have loosened the bolts holding the pressure plate and used a gasket scraper to "loosen" the sides of the pressure plate. The heavy center portion of the pressure plate appears to be stuck to the disc.

There is a bolt hole on the side of the bell housing with not quite direct access to the side (heavy center portion) of the pressure plate. I may be able to get a wedge in there. I was trying this earlier today in the rain. Quit when the water kept dripping in one eye.

The tractor is currently sitting in my driveway, in town. If I can't get it free here I will trailer it to our acreage. There I will try driving the tractor, locking the brakes with the clutch depressed. My shop is on the acreage.

Thanks.

Still more ideas wanted.

If it iwas me I would drain the tran fluid and put new in there b/c god knows how long it has been in there. As for the stuck problem you might hook a chain too it and pull very very carefully. It might free up the tran?
