Looking for a small Farmall to cut the grass at my late dad's homestaed once a month. Was looking at a cub, then decided an "A" would be better. Want a belly mower, but also have a brush hog I'd like to be able to use. Not knowledgeable on tractors, understand no hydraulics on A? What is the smallest wide front farmall with live pto and hydraulics for a 3 point? Thanks for any info on these tractors, A, C, 100, 130, what is Super when referring to A and C?

A Farmall A or Super A would be a perfect fit for a nice 60" belly mower. As long as your not trying to cut super deep grass really short. Depending on how big your brush hog is and how tall the brush is you want to cut and how short you want to cut it will determine if the A is enough tractor. Brush hogging takes a lot of power and the A in my opinion is a touch small for such a task. If you want to stick with letter series tractors I would go no smaller then a C for brush hogging and preferably an H. The only letter series tractor you are going to find with a live PTO is a 1954 Super MTA. That would be a lot mor ethen your looking for I would assume. Hope this is helpful to you.

I have a 350 diesel utility w/ fast hitch. Runs and mows great. Low to the ground for hills, and 40+ HP. (power steering and live pto also, and don't forget the T/A, what a great little thing).

I also "Tug Pull" pull it in 7200lb class..Very fun to watch Green A's and G's and Red M's, 460's, and 560's get beat by a little utility.

Just a thought, Thanks Rusty

Jim,

I have been mowing 2+ acres here for 38 years now with a 60" belly mower on my Super A. Not having live PTO on the SA doesn't affect mowing. As for a 3pt hitch, the Work Saver conversion I bought a vew years ago operates well with the standard SA hydraulic system using the rear lift arms. The past couple of weeks I have noticed a number of inquiries on this board about using a brush hog on the SA. They seem to indicate that the offset PTO is not a problem. Look back a few pages or check the archives.

Thomas,
I've been trying to find some way to put a 3 point hitch on my Super A. You mention Work Saver conversion. Can you offer some info on how I can contact them or maybe visit their web site? Thanks!

If you are wanting live pto and a 3 point, you might want to consider a 300 or 350 utility.

I have heard that many people like to use the Farmall A's for mowing. The Super's were introduced following the regualar series and have more horsepower, and some changed features. ---Jeff

I was told a long time ago by a North Dakota farmer who had owned a couple of "C" Farmalls that the only difference between the regular "C" and the "Super C" was that the "Super C" had a dual hydraulic system. There may have been other differences that he was not aware of, but he did know a lot about tractors. Looking at the two of them, I could not see any other difference.
