I am a Moline collector that is very interested in FWA tractors. I know that Elwood Manufacturing of Elwood, Ill. produced some gear boxes to be used on International tractors. If I am not mistaking, they were put under 460 and 560 tractors. I was wondering if anyone knows how many were made. I have seen one before and they used the same front end as on the Moline tractors of this era. Thanks
Doug

My 186 parts books has a serial number break to change from Coleman to Elwood. I once bought a G1000 with an Elwood FWA to cut it up (sorry) and put the FWA under my 1568. While everything looked the same as on my 186 once I had them parked together everything was a little different. I finally sold the G1000 still complete.

I don't know about the 460 and 560- might have been aftermarket. IH sold 806s with the MFWA from Elwood, though.

Elwood MFG Co. did not become a factory installed fwa axle until the IH 86 series came out. To the best of my memory, IH never offered factory installed fwa on tractors prior to the 706-806. The 06 tractors that had factory fwa had a metal emblem attached to the cowling from a SCOUT that said "all wheel drive". The axle used was made by coleman.

The early Elwood fwa axle could be adapted to the M farmall. I believe Elwood started in 1948???? They are out of business now, but most parts are offered thru Trac 4.

I have an 806 AWD with a broken front half-shaft and a broken gimbal. I saw that you had stated that the parts are still available from "Trac 4". Can you please clue me into where they can be found. My local case/IH dealer wanted $2,500 USD for the shaft alone.

Thanks,

Dana

Guy didn't the 806's have American Coleman fronts on them. And IH used the American Coleman front until the mid 86's
My dad said that in 1963 560 diesel came in on the train to our local dealer with a factory Elwood front.

In my nov-dec 89' issue of antique power magazine page 18, shows a Elwood Mfg. Co. conversion kit on a M, it runs off of where the belt pulley mounts. I saw one in southeran Nebraska the other year along I-80 looked pretty sharp, dosen't look like it turned to sharp.
