I have a SMTA that has a Delco Remy distibutor getting oil up to the points. Distributor sets up and down. I was told by someone that ther is an o ring inside but my IH dealer says there isn't and that the Behlen power steering seal is what is causing the problem. What should I try to do to correct the problem? I have it apart but I never seen any o ring. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Our SMTA leaks oil into the disridutor cap too, it has no power steering , so it must be from the hydraulic pump seal. Update us on your findings, and how you fixed it... please!!! Thanks, Doug

the seal in the hdy. pump is the one that is leaking and forcing oil up the shaft . there is no o/ring or seal in the dist.

Do you think it is in the Behlen pump or the in the IH hydraulic pump?

Well the only way i have ever seen the dist mounted is on the I H hdy. pump and the seal starts seeping and it goes up the dist shaft but i can't see what you have on yours as somebody may have done something that i have never seen before.

From the front of tractor it starts with the hydraulic pump then the Behlen pump and then the distributor housing. I have it off right now but not tore apart yet. Is there something to look for on the Behlen pump also? Is there something I can clean the pumps with without hurting them? 50 years of grime lays on the outside. Thanks again. Mark

Now that is a new one on me having two pumps back to back , so it has to be the seal in the belhen that is going bad and also the bushings and letting the shaft more more then it is suppose to . As far a cleaning them mineral spirits diesel fuel what ever and a good stiff brush and elbow grease.
