Went back yesterday armed with some info from Guy Fay.Looked all over for numbers and the only oddball thing I found was on the engine block where the part # should be had beed ground off and something like 6380 had been stamped on there, there may have been one more number but if it was it wasnt legible.Heres what I do know so far:The tractor by the enigne serial number, which if you ecall was a plate, and casting codes say its a 1941.Looking over it it doesnt look any different than any other M.The serial number plate was gone, and I cant find the holes for it but just below where it should be was stamped Q-31902,lightly but legible. The engine serial number was a plate held on with two small rivets with FBKM-31902.With the owners permission I pulled the rivets to find the same Q-31902.The current owner says he bought it from an elderly gent in Charleston SC a few years ago. I have been unsuccesful in getting in touch with him,he hasnt called me back, but I have gotten in touch with the son of the dealer,a local hardware store in Geogetown SC,McCrannie Hardware.Fortunatly, the owner of the store kept alot of old records when he retired, but his son says he seriously doughts he kept any of the tyractor sales records as it wasnt his main deal. Ihave gotten in touch with the son of the owner who bought it originally and has passed along my interest in info on it.He says he can barely rememebrr him buying it,let alone know anything about it other than it being sold to the current owner. Ihave come up with several ideas,This is possibly some type of scam from a few years back to sell an "experimental" tractor to someone to make a buck,or it was in fact an experimental tractor of some type, possibly just never got turned back in or its a variety of mixed and matched parts that happen t oall have the correct codes. I do understand that time can play havoc on ones memeory, and sometimes we often forget the big picture, but something isnt adding up in my head and I end up with more questions than answers!Maybe Ill learn the truth of it,maybe I wont..... ....But it sure is fun trying to find out!!!!! !!!!! !!
