504 Injection pump

Does anyone know how to set the injection pump of a D188 engine.
we bought a 514 (european number for 504) a few years back, and they said the pump had gone bad. There is another pump with it.
Now I want to replace the pump, but have no clue how to set it before installing.
If someone has done this before and wants to share his knowledge on this, that would be great.

My experience was two 282 IH of which your engine is just 2/3, twice on John Deere 329, first time I damaged o ring. The 5th one was my Chevy 6.2 diesel. I also did them in that order so the o ring damage is not necessarily first timers. More a case of hurry.

It's the first time I set a rotating fuel pump.
Linepumps (like on 50's and 60's IH and old mercedes cars) I 've set without problems.
Just wanted to be sure what to do when installing the other pump;
Didn't know that there were timing marks under the small plate on the side of the pump.
And now I also know to watch for the o-ring.
