California tractor hunting grounds...

I've convinced myself that it's time to join the IH community and look for an F20 to tinker with. Out here in California we don't have old tractors laying all over the place like you lucky guys in the midwest. Can anyone suggest good places to look for an F20 in the west/southwest?

I've talked to a few gas tractors guys at our ag museum, looked in the Equipment Trader magazine, subscribed to Antique Power magazine, and of course I'm looking within this forum. Anywhere else should I be looking?

Thx

Scott, whereabouts in California? Seems like there was quite a few old tractors around Bakersfield when I went thru there. I drive thru from Washington to Bakersfield every year, and if you get off 99 aways I bet you could find old iron all the way from Bakersfield to Chico and beyond.

Yep,there are a couple of places north of Bakersfield on 99, west side of the highway (I haven't stopped at either of them) there, only seen them from the road). Also, west of Bakersfield on the road to Buttonwillow, lots of equipment in various states of completeness.

I'm near Los Angeles. Central California is very ag oriented. I don't know how much really old iron is lurking up there. I don't travel up that way much except for steam or ag shows around Tulare about twice a year. I think there is an IH Scout and International truck club up there somewhere. I wonder if they are into tractors?

Thanks for the info.

In that case, I'd recommend a run to Bakersfield. When you get north of the grapevine on I-5, take 58 over to 99, and somewhere along there is a fellow on the south side of the road has a whole mess of old iron, seemed to be mostly Allises. He musta got 'em somewhere. I've always had my wife along, or I woulda stopped and tried to find out more.

I would think that California is alot like Iowa, you have to get off of the major highways before you start seeing the old iron.
