This has probably been asked many time before. I recently purchased a Farmall H with 6 volt battery. It is 1944 model and runs good but starter wire gets hot when starting. Should this be a positve ground? Are all Famall H positive ground. This is hooked up as negative ground. Is it wrong?

Hi Bob,

Yes, it is hooked up wrong and I'd guess there is a good chance that your battery is probably charged backwards too; if so, it will have to be completely drained and brought back up in the correct polarity before you switch it.

All starter cables will get warm as there is a lot of current going thru it while cranking (300+ amps).

I'd replace it with a good heavy cable; this really makes 'em start nice.

If it is 6-volt then it should be positive ground. All were pos ground back then. I think you may find more problems after you change this. Sometimes this caN FRY your voltage reg. Check to make sure charging system is working when you correct this.

Thanks for the information. I will be careful but will make change as it needs to be corrected. Thanks again for your help.
