Hey fella's , i'm usually a Farmall-Only-Boy, but i have the chance to pick up a 1952 Allis B for $500 Canadian Dollars. It's not currantly running (not seized, mag needs rebuild), and needs all 4 tires. The sheet metal is in excellent condition with all paint still on (no rust). Should i jump at this chance, or pass it by in hopes of finding a Farmall A for that price? Thanks guys!---Jeff

For that price i'd buy it!! BUT, what makes the "A" waaaaa y superior to the Allis B is, the "A" has a 4 speed trans.!!!!! That makes all the difference in the world "IF" you plan to use the tractor for "work", as those B's have quite a fast first gear in them!! Other wise, the Allis is a nice tractor.

I had an Allis "B", Farmall "A", and JD "M", all at the same time, the Allis is gone because of that too fast first gear. The others are still in my barn.

Jeff, For the price, I doubt you can go wrong. What you would end up with, essensially, is a Farmall A sans offset configuration. While there are distinct differences betweem the Allis B and the Farmall A, there are also many similarities. They perform most of the same tasks as the A, and have similar horse power. I say why not, as the price is right.

You will get the "forerunner" of the Farmall A and B. Allis is where IH got their idea for the torque tube -- had to pay Allis to keep it.

mainly a farmall man here too. driving through a local dealer about two weeks ago and spotted a allis WD out back. saleman said it didn't run. paid $175 for it. buddy is a big allis fan. he went with me the next night to load it and after 20 min of tinkering we drove it on the trailer. still running good!

Jeff: Go for it, you just might be surprised how many Allis guys have a Farmall tucked away, that they picked up very reasonable. May as well have some bargaining power.

I would buy it, and resell it higher. Maybe get it running, sounds like a good buy to an AC guy. At that price, it could be parted out if you had to.

Jeff,
I too would go for it, 'cept I might be tempted to go a bit lower seeing the tires need replaced. But that's just me. I know a guy up near Powassan, paid $800 for a nice B, not running, the paint was nothing to go on about, it needed alot of work but he's sure happy to have it. I'm looking at a 3rd. Cub right now that I'm trying to wrestle out of a guy. If he keeps it, it will just continue to sit outside, been there now for 8 years, I see alot of excellent parts, I could make my money back parting out some of it, and still retain alot of needed pricey parts for myself. But actually I want to get it running and hear it purr like they should.
