I was in my local Case/IH,John Deere dealer today getting some pieces and there was a guy in there with a tag in his hand getting some parts also. I got to visiting with him and he was getting brake disks for his tractor,he did'nt have anything to write on so he took a screw driver and popped off the serial number tag to get the right parts. He told me he was just trying to get everything fixed so he could sell the old tractor this fall. It was completly none of my buisness but this really pissed me off.Somebody is going to buy that tractor and where do you think the ser# tag is going to be in a year or so? It sure as heck ain't gonna be on the rivets on the side of the tractor where it belongs, all because of a lazy sob with a screw driver. I have had tractors without # tags and they are hard to get the right parts for sometimes. Do me a favor and PLEASE DON'T REMOVE THE TAGS.

yes...it's a shame the tag is now gone.....that being said, it's still his tractor to do with as he chooses just as you can do with yours as you choose.

It is unbelievable how stupid some guys can be and how lazy just to save time. It is especially difficult to make out the numbers on a tractor that has been left out in the pasture for the cows to eat. I am having this problem right now with an A that we rescued from just such an idiot and his cows! This is our heritage, some folks just don't think.

I bought a 1942 M with a 1939 tag on it. I have no idea what the real serial number is. All I know is that the casting dates are somewhere in the middle of 1942. I pulled the wrong tag off so no one gets confused.

He is full of BS and will never sell the tractor anyway. Don't believe everything you are told.

It just makes me think of all the tractors I have seen with the tag gone and almost no way to get the exact information. Once it is gone ,it is gone forever. You see antique ser# tags on ebay also(grinds my teeth) I hope they were scavenged from the recycler.
