My stepfather has a farmall H or possibly an M. I don't have any pictures...

But I have numbers!:

Engine block, rt side: 354898R1
Below firing order: 5*3*W (on a plate)(Where * is a screw)
Engine block, lt side: S (on a plate)
Base under seat: IH 351132-R1
Base under seat: *12*22*S* and *L*No 1* (plates)
Front Lift hydraulics: 3_4352 R2
Front Lift hydraulics: 4*11*W (plate)
Front Lift hydraulics: IH symbol
Rt side of seat base: 104614 and 1815 (stamped in plate)

Is that engine s/n close to the tractor s/n? making it a 1951 Model H?

There are no other plates on the tractor that I can find.

Two out of three dates place it in 1951. If you have a ser Number plate on the base of the seat, you may have a Super C with the Serial number, placing it as a 1951. Check the block just above number one cylinder for the engine ser. number. It is stamped on a milled boss. Post that number here..

I believe that the 35489R1 number is stamped there. It is stamped on the right side, right above "Firing Order" to the front of the engine.

Is this the number you're talking about?

That is a casting number... R1 is revision number, This is stamped on a milled boss just above or just below number one spark plug

What are the differences to the "C" and the "Super C"? Engine size?

1/8 in larger bore. The C has a 113 engine (3In Bore) and the Super C has 123 cu. in. (3 1/8 Bore) According to Guy Fays's IH Data Book, some of the very late Farmall C's also had the 123.

Dave - would the plate screwed onto the left side of the block with "S" on it (the only thing on it) indicate a "Super C"?
