Not to beat a dead horse on this subject, but I am still looking for the best type of mower for my Super A to mow about 15 acres of field, some of it rough stuff. I do not want a finish mower, and I think I'd prefer not to have a belly mower unless someone can convince me otherwise. I looked at the L-59's on the Woods website, these look like they are belly mowers only. Can anyone suggest a pull behind mower that will do a good job in rough grass, sticks, etc..?? Thanks again. I'll publish a note when I finally buy one, so you all can breath a sigh of relief...

You could use a sickle bar mower for the A I have rear mounted sickle bar mower that works very well 7 foot cut Mounts in where your draw bar goes. You should be able to find one from $150 & up

Yep. Got a sickle bar mower and works great, mowed about 4-5 acres a month ago, but I think I'd like to get something that will do some really rugged fields, grass and hay that hasn't been mowed in years, maybe some small saplings, etc.. the sickle tends to clog up once in awhile....

I use a super a farmall with a bush hog every year(unsure of brand name) but if you use one get a slip clutch for it, that way if you hit anything it won't tear up the transmission. they fit right onto the pto shaft and some will adapt to the driveline of the bush hog. you can find them at tractor supply. the only problem i have ever had was a chatter when i make a right turn. so to prevent this attach the mower about 6 inches from the center of the drawbar to the left

A drawbar hitch pull type sickle mower one with two wheels would be great.

Maybe a flail type mower (Mott is/was a popular brand) The highways often use them. They are somwhere betwen a finish mower and a bush hog in terms of quality of cut, but can go right over rocks and rough stuff. Most I have seen are belly mount though.

Take Care
Steve

Hey Bill, You are one heck of a procrastinator! Anyway if its just weeds and grasses you can buy a cheap one from Val*-Bil# Tractor, Howse, brand for about $500 or if your looking for a more heavyduty you can get a Woods Brush Hog Squealer, but more money!

Scotty,

I've been wondering the same thing about our 140, but I thought the offset PTO shaft causes a problem for "standard" bush hogs. I take it that there's enough "slip" in the typical PTO shaft to account for the offset??

The offset P.T.O. should require nothing more than a longer shaft from the mower, but, My tractor was just delivered about an hour ago, so, I'm not 100% positive.
