The Air Cleaner Oil Cup (at the bottom of the Air Cleaner Assembly) on my Farmall 100 is rusted out. Based on the parts manual, I have the United Specialties brand. Several questions
1. Can I just replace the Oil Cup or should I consider replacing the whole Air Cleaner body as well.
2. What is inside the Air Cleaner body and do things go wrong with it. In the parts manual, they say the body is one piece so it doesn't appear like it is meant to be opened up or fixed but you guys probably know more... Thanks Ramon

I fixed one with JB Weld. I cleaned it up and bead blasted the inside near the hole. Then spread a little bit of JB Weld on from the inside. Depending on the size of the hole, you may need to file a little off the outside after it cures.

Just get a new cup, or solder or braze the one you have. I think Val-U-bilt has these. I've had two tractors with this problem, so I think it is a common problem. Get a little condensate moisture and sludge in the bottom of the cup and you have a very corrosive combination that can eat right through when the thing is not maintained for years.

I've repaired rust throughs on those cups by useing a wide, short, self tapping screw in the hole then soldering around it to seal it. Not hard to do and holds up well.

Ramon, I would just get a replacement oil cup. As far as taking the airfilter apart, you will have to drill out the four spotwelds at the base of the cannister. If I remember correctly, its about a 1/4" drill I used or slightly larger. By drilling those spotwelds out you can take the screen retainer plate out and remove the screens and clean. You may have to have someone make another retainer that can be clamped to that center air intake pipe, no big problem. Some people have said that this is a butcher job, but I disagree. After the oil cup is put back on you would never be able to tell that the cannister was touched! And you also know that your airfilter is good and clean!

On my C I just took the entire air cleaner assembly off and then flushed with parts cleaner. If the outside is dirty I would get as much of that off as you can so that you don't get all of that in the parts cleaner. Just my $0.02 worth.

Randy, You may be right, but the other problem I had with mine was that someone had dented the outside of that cannister badly with a hammer and the only way I could fix those dents was to pull the whole thing apart and use a large piece of pipe to remove most of those dents before bondo.

I just swished mine around in a bucket of kerosene and let it dry. Replacements are not that easy to find, so I'd recommend replacing just the cup.
