A feller brought me his A to work on, he wanted a tune up and all the fluids changed,, well the tractor smoked,, so now I am doing rings and bearings as well as the tune up,, he will have a like new tractor when its done. Now all I have to do is get working on the M that is here with the tranny stuck between gears, any ideas on getting it out of the two gears without pulling the platform off the tractor???

About everything you need to know about fixing the M transmission problem is discussed in the "frozen gears" thread, about 1 page down the list from this thread.

In this particular case, EZ's fix is probably the right one.

Pound out the pin that holds the shifter in and remove the shifter. You should be able to take a punch and line up the notches in the shifter rails. Then build up the tip of the shifter with weld and reshape it so it fits down in the rails further to prevent the problem from reoccuring.

The guy who owns it wont believe that the shifter is worn, he knows it gets stuck between gears but yet refuses to see it is worn,,I am supposed to fix the tractor for him, but how do you fix something when the owner wont believe what is wrong,,I even offered to sell him the parts cheap,,I have a M for parts here and have all the parts needed,,Dunno what to do,,Jim

I'd tell him to come and get it.
