230 hydralic pump?

I'm new here - been lurking at the AC board or a couple of years, though. Trying to help out a neighbor - his old IH 230 blew it's hydraulic pump a couple of days ago. That's per the real tractor mechanic who checked it out. I used to be a turbine mechanic. First question is where's the best place to start hunting IH parts? Second question - is it worth it? This tractor has been run long and hard, 2 years ago it spent 3 days with nothing but the exhaust rain flap out of the flood water. It was cleaned up and fluids changed but it seems like everytime he fixes one problem within a couple of weeks a new problem comes up. Are these tractors worth the effort or will repairs just cause something else to go bad? The neighbor is 78 years old and I've told him he can use my D17 any time he wants it or I'll be glad to do any tractor work he wants for him. Thanks for any info!

Make sure they flushed out the hyd reservoir on that. It's seperate from the tranny. Reservoir is down in the torque tube (3 large bolts in the center for draining) and it does have a vent so I can see water poss geting in there. Probably want to even flush the lines to his fast hitch in this case. The 230's are good machines, he can use a pump from a C/Super C/200/230/Super A/100/130/140 at least if he's looking for a used one. I know of Bill Rice in Sutherlin VA, near the NC border. Some folks down in NC might offer some closer options for you.

Thanks for the info!!! I think that a used pump would be the way to go - I"m scared a rebuilt one would have so much pressure it"d blow out something else as old and abused as this tractor is. It"s been in simi-retirement since my neighbor bought it 5 years ago but it caught it before that! All the fluids were changed at the local Agco dealer after the flood and the tractor has been run for over a year since then. Then about 3 months ago it wouldn"t start due to old wiring, then the starter locked the motor due to a bad flywheel, then it wouldn"t run due to a worn out carburator. My neighbor only paid $1700 for the tractor 5 years ago and in the last 3 months he"s put another $1k in repairs in it. It"s starting to sound more like a boat than a tractor - a hole in water to pour money into..
Thanks again for the info on pump interchangability! At least I got a chance to save him some money this time instead of just learning his tractor is at the shop again.
