You can fix it but it is tricky. When you start to solder the expansion of the air will tend to bolw the solder out of the crack. When you get done check for leaks by dipping in warm water. If you still have leaks the warm water will heat and expand the air inside and blow bubbles. I have even drilled a small hole to drain out the gas that is inside, then solder up the hole last.

Jim, what is your float made of? I'm assuming it a hollow brass one. I had one on my F-12 that had a crack that was absolutely impossible to see unless you squeezed it slightly and the metal came under a little bit of stress. The only thing that tipped me off was that the tractor ran fine one day and flooded to the point of stalling and not being able to start the next. I took it apart and it was full of gas. I knew there had to be some sort of crack there. Anyway I fixed it with an electric soldering gun and just a touch of solder. Make sure you use and electric one though, a flame is likely to be too hot and create a mess for you. Make sure too that you don't put on so much solder that you affect the level at which it will float.

Your best bet is to replace the float.
