posting is still very slow for me and now it don"t even seem to want to make a cookie. Ok, I changed my security options to allways allow cookies from ytmag. we"ll see if that helps.

I just posted a message a couple of minutes ago and it went through in a couple of seconds. But then I am sitting a work and we have a humongous data line out of our system to the Internet. I have only noticed a slow down a couple of times but believe it is due to our firewall and scanning systems. Even when I get on from home I have a cable modem and it seems to perform as expected.

If you are using dial-up it could be a function of your ISP. If they are experiencing unusually high volumes of usage that would slow you down. Also a noisy phone line could be the culprit. If the error checking on the transmitted data packets fails then your computer has to re-send those packets again. If there is noise on the phone line then this will slow down an already slow modem line. We have experienced instances where the throughput on the modem lines decreased when it rained. I know. Nebraska Cowman would be in seventh heaven if that were the cause. :>)

Just a couple of thoughts.

When you think it is slow, exit windows after the final posting step, when you reload it will probably be there. This usually happens to me on the Painting Forum, occasionally here. No idea why. If someone has the answer, I will appreciate knowing the reason. Will also eliminate most double posts.

yes, I have done that when the post would hang on ocasion. But this is different. it even takes forever before i get the preview screen. At least it happens consistantly, ie EVERY TIME

It seem to me that if it's happening everytime to you it has to be a setting or program on your computer. Do you have a cookie washer program that sets up a proxy IP address and the preview data is having a hard time finding you? Or maybe the forum's program uses an Active X script and you have the computer set to reject those scripts or some other setting/program that rejects or loops data. Maybe your ISP has a popup ad filter and for some reason it sees the preview as a popup ad. I noticed the preview pane comes back as a .cgi file and not a html. Maybe somthing in your computer is blocking or having a hard time decoding a .cgi file. I've gone to and from the preview pane several time during this posting without problems or slowdowns. I don't know either but it's probably something simple.
