I have an early 1940 farmall m with no stamping on the id area of the block. The only id numbers are DJ 4 and 425 W, (which are cast into the block) but there are no stamped numbers. They are not worn off, just blank. Is this a replacement block from the dealership? I know MOPAR did this in the 60"s. Is this some kind of power unit block? Also, it has a cover on the left side of the block below the carburater where there is a plate. My other blocks do not have this plate, but have a smooth casting in the same place. What is this for?...thanks, Andy

IH replacement that was cast april 25 1951.The plate is for fuel pump mounting.A rod is used in a drilled hole behind plate,it runs off camshaft.
Fuel pumps were used in some power units and others, but it would have a serial # if it was from
those. Sometimes dealers would stamp serial # back on block, sometimes not.I dont know why but a lot of casting # were ground off.Sometimes another
casting # was stamped in the ground off area.

Thank you very much...could these be either a 3 7/8", 4" or 4 1/8" bore?

Being cast in 4-51 its likely standard M bore
with 3 7/8 or 4 inch sleeves.
