I bought a 560d in May I knew head had a crack in it water was getting in oil.I pulled head off and I found hairline cracks in sleeves. I put new sleeves, pistons, and rings. I also replaced the rod bearings and a remanufactured head with new valves. I had all the injectors tested and rebuilt. The glow plugs are new also. My problem is When I start the tractor It starts easily but it only starts on 4 or 5 cylinders And it smokes like crazy. After ten minutes or so it will run on all 6 cylinders. But it still smokes like crazy When I work It the smoke clears up. but when i let it idle for a few minutes it starts smoking like crazy. Any ideas thanks scotty

Scotty, are you loosing anti-freeze from the cooling system, is it using any oil? How many hours do you have on the overhaul, and how was the engine broken in?

The 560 Diesel has dry sleeves, so the cracks in the sleeves are not where you were getting water in your oil, rather probably from the head. Another possibility is that the block may be cracked behind the dry sleeves, which could be a source of water in the oil.

How long are you holding your glow-plugs when you start the engine? Thirty to sixty seconds (is common), then continue to hold them and hit the starter. After it starts, hold the glow plugs in until the smoke clears or the engine starts to run smooth. Have you had the injector pump checked? The pump might not be putting enough pressure to the injectors under light loads to get a good spray pattern.

Good luck!
