Way to go, Lance! Isn't that the biggest hoot winning at your first time on a sled? I'll bet you sent some of those fellers home scratching their heads. I experienced the same situation 2 weeks ago at our local fair. I jousted my W-9 up against several JDs in the 7500# Classic Division and whupped them all using worn tires and one lousy pair of rear wheel weights. The best part of it all was that this all happened with my brother and five buddies watching. I must admit that one of the tractors the W-9 had to go up against was a gourgeous 730D Wheatland. I had no aspirations of out-pulling this brute as I was spotting it 500# and new rubber, but when the rubber hit the road, the 730 managed to disqualify itself by slinging its clutch cover down the track. Sorry, bud. You lose any hardware and you're out. As to the tires: I am told that new rubber isn't the end-all in tractor pulls. On hard, dry, dusty tracks, old tires with cracks, checks and flexy sidewalls bite like a deerfly at a cookout. There may be some merit to this statement. I am retiring, too. Well...MAYBE!
