So I just bought a 706 serial# I-817 (1963?)it has the factory cab,its been shedded all its life. I proceded to change all fluid and filters when I got it home, everything looked great untill I got to the hydraulic filter, when I removed the tin cover, there perched on top of the filter was a 1/2" X 2" bolt (3/4" head) its amazing this bolt made it through the return line, but the big question is where is it from? the bolt has "IH" bossed on the head with four little marks going out from it (the same marks a grade 5 bolt has only there are 4) any help would be great.thanx

feeding hay in the pasture one night, my SM's left wheel locked up. pulled the brake but still wouldn't turn but about 7/8 of the way around, pulled the top cover jacked up and spun the left wheel, and around comes a tooth, that didn't come off any of my current gears, stuck onto the bull gear. Last time the rearend had been opened up was nearly 20 years earlier.

I once had a 1086 and one time when I changed the hyd filter I found a small snap ring. about the size for a 5/16 shaft. I just crossed my fingers and ran that tractor for nearly 7000 more hours and traded it off with never any trans or rear end problems. Another time my 560 started making a noise going down the road and after having the dealer dig a bolt out of it they discoverd they must have left it in there the year before when the ring gear and pinion went out. They did the labor for free since the same shop.

Twerp, I have a 706 and a756 they both have a bolt in the filter housing to rest the filter on until you get the cover back on.

Could it be that someone just left it there earlier?

Hi John,

Boy, that would be my guess too. Maybe it was placed there as a joke for the next guy to find?

Can't imagine a bolt that size wigglin' thru that line. ?:>(
