under a day and a half left and no bids, 875 is a bit steep for a motor isn't it, considering the price of a rebuild kit? trouble is when it doesn't sell like this someone will buy it next time as a whole tractor probably and pay 3000 for it.

NOBODY would be whining if he had taken it apart FIRST and was just selling the parts without telling you they were off a running machine. If I needed some known good engine parts for my H I'd much rather hear the motor run than buying a pig in poke from a salvave yard.

I"m in advertising_sounds like smoke & mirrors to me. He"s just trolling hoping someone will bite & buy it outside the auction to save it. $875 for the engine_no bids. Paint doesn"t make that engine worth $875. Watch & see if he gets a bid or puts it back up in a week or so.

Folks, On the surface it would seem like an abomination to part out a running tractor, however, the tractor in question may in turn allow a dozen tractors now not running to once again run and be incorporated into either working or show or pulling tractors. While there are boneyards that many parts can be gleaned from non running tractors, there are also parts needed that may not be gotten from a boneyard. Engine blocks, heads, gears, to name a few. Even good tin work is recyclable as wittnessed by the fact that everyone wants a good straight grill, but there are so few to be had. Most of them are bent, rusted or otherwise need lots of work to be put back into shape. Good hoods are also in short supply. I'm not saying I totally aprove of parting out good tractors, but its not necessarily a zero sum gain. Actually, I see no difference in parting out a good running tractor than building a modified or radical puller from a perfectly good running tractor.

I agree. Sacrificing one H might bring a dozen back to life. That was the case when I gave up on Old Rusty H and parted out what I could. Over a dozen buyers benefited.

I don't agree with parting it out, but don't let the word "restored" fool you. It was probably painted over rust, dirt, and everything else, with many leaks, then he found out it wouldn't sell. The engine is probably not in as good shape as he indicates. Paint hides a lot of defects. I have bought two tractors that were painted just to sell, knowing I would have to fix nearly everything on them, including stripping and repainting. Lot of BS on Ebay.

In a lot of ways the best parts come from the best machines. The ones that were left in the wind row were put there for a reason and often times the tin and engine wear etc. reflect this. I am not saying that I support this auction but there is indeed a balance between the need for parts and the value of whole machines. Often times money talks. If there weren't a bunch of people out there buying these parts people wouldn't do this.

I saw that ad the other day. It"s too bad that people choose to rip apart a perfectly good tractor when there are quite a lot of "dead" parts tractors out there. They aren"t making any more of these. ---Jeff

I said the same thing. Why don"t they at least sell the whole tractor so someone can enjoy using it, and not just throw its parts everywhere like an old junk parts tractor

Yeah, and theres still quite a few old H's around in the brush that could be parted out. But then ebay buyers are known to be picky, and would much rather have parts off a beautiful show tractor that are all painted, then an old rusted one. I'd like to have that H myself!. Theres a few people out there that do this for a living, I ran across a guy that spends all his time out running around the countyside buying up old tractors from fencerows, and then sells the parts, some were even running and driving.

If it makes you guys feel better I"m restoring an H that wasn"t even good enough to be a parts tractor a few months ago.
