Wayne - Sounds like piece of debris got caught in the power screw orifice (needle seat). Solution is to remove the carb bowl, give it a thorough cleaning and blow out all the passages with compressed air.

Proper terminology will help here.
If I understand the original question, the high speed mixture screw was removed & replaced. The problem may be that the screw needs to be backed out a turn or so.
The "power screw" is not connected to the "needle seat".
To clarify, the main jet is mated with the high speed mixture screw; the needle & seat are attached to the float.
Sorry for the corrections; it is the "old" teacher in me!!

The parts books calls them seats. But Bob did not say needle and seat, as for the float, he said needle seat, which I consider correct. This is all irrelavant as CNH now calls seats, or orfices, "bits", the European terminology, at least that's what the computer printout called the last seat/orfice/jet that I ordered.

Yeah Wayne – proper terminology here would help!

I referred the high speed needle orifice a “seat” simply because the old timers who passed their carb knowledge down to me many years ago called ‘em seats. Perhaps orifice is too hard to pronounce? Or maybe because you begin adjustment the adjustment by turning the mixture screw in all the way until it “seats”? Who knows...

Anyway as you suggest if the high speed screw was simply screwed in tight, opening it back up as required will cure the problem. However often when the screw is removed it’ll break loose bits of screw shaft packing, varnish, etc on it’s way out. The junk then gets into and clogs the seat...oops – the ORIFICE...and you wind up with a chronic lean condition. Cleaning it out is the only fix.
