I just replaced the rings and had a valve job done on my H. The carb has always been a problem even after being rebuilt 3 times. I got it running but the carb just runs gas out of it. I realize it is a float problem and after the last rebuild it is almost touching the top of the throttle body. The TISCO kit I used said use a 1-27/32 distance from the throttle body to the bottom of the float. I hace tried a 1/4" distance to the top of the float , same problem, what am I doing wrong? I have cleaned and blown out the whole carb.It has a round float and my ihc book shows a square one.

I read about a handy way of determinng where the fuel level is in the bowl by removing the drain plug on the bottom of the carb, screw in a barbed connector, attach a clear flexable plastic tubing and have it turn up beside the carb. Now its kinda like a coffee pot with the clear tube on the side and you can see where the level is. My Super A was having similar problem and was the needle valve sticking closed, even when the float droped. Tinkered with it a while and got it sorted out. The price of a new carb will solve your problem and restore your sanity. Sometimes you gotta do what you dont want to do to get where you wanna be.

Pretty neat idea to find the fuel level. Any one else have any solutions for this carb problem? I have been through this carb and cleaned and blown out all the passages and rebuilt it, just having problem with gas pouring out the mouth of the carb and engine getting too much gas. I got the motor running after the re-ring and valve job but after awhile it dies and gas runs out of the carb.

Sounds like its flooding out. Maybe needle valve isn't shutting off fuel flow. I took my carb apart so many times, I swore it should have been put together with zippers to make the job easier. I got mine running ok but i'm still considering a new one just to put my mind at ease. I think "carburetor" is a French word that means "dont mess with me" (except in more explicit terms)

Red,
There could be the possibility of leakage elsewhere. I would remove the top of the carb and set the carb bowl (open side up) in a level position and fill the bowl to the top with gas. If the bowl holds gas it would help eliminate the possibilty of cracks in the bowl or leakage around the main jet tube. If that checks out, I would then leak test the top by applying fuel to the inlet and manually closing the float valve. This would help to eliminate cracks in the carb top or leakage around the float valve seat.
When you find the answer, let me know. I have the same problem on a Farmall C. I really need to get back to find a fix for that problem.
Good Luck,
K-Mo

Red, Are you sure that you are getting full flow to the carb.? If the sediment bowl or line is restriced it will do as you say also.

Is the float able to swing freely on the hinge pin?
Does the float hit the side of the float bowl?
Be sure there is no dirt in the line from the tank to the carb that can cause the needle to not seat properly.

How about a hole in the float . It will slowly fill with gas and sink letting to much fuel in . Also My SM had a problem and for some reason the float was catching and hanging the needel open I had to bend it and fiddel with it till I knew it was straight and would go up and down right when I closed The two halves together. Have you change the needle and seat under the float. Some of the needles are all brass and have a problem leaking. Get one off your Case-IH dealer with a rubber tip.
