Duane E Poole:

Your fire crater pistons change quite a few things in the distributor to bring out the power. The drive shaft will have to be changed from 30 degree to 22 degree advance shaft and the governor(weights) spring package standard#358108R91 to fire crater springs#372785R91 Distributor number standard#357935R91 to fire crater part number(for complete dist.)#372712R91. Everything else is the same. I have found that I.H. is not stocking all the older spring packages for specials like fire crater or L.P. models. I know I used these springs last year but from time to time I have to use the next best spring package due to availability problems. Post if you have any problems or other questions.

Thank You for the response.

Sounds as if you have done more than one of these.

Is the part number 372712R91, a shaft only, or is it a complete distributor?
I have looked at my specs in my manual and it tells me that I have a 40 degree full advance shaft .The distributor plate says that it is 40 degrees as well. Is there a different shaft(distributor) that must be install? Different than the one you gave me. Does this shaft (dist) change the dwell? Is there an old factory manual on the fire crater parts ? If so , where can I find one?

Thanks for your help so far.
I'm sure I will need more.
Duane
