farmallman: I fail to see who was being rude. Both Stan and CNKS have been some of the most helpful people on this discussion forum. They did nothing more than tell Eddie the hard facts. Yes looking for an additional diget in that serial may be a good idea. Yes hydraulics will tell you maybe. Hydraulics are probably quite a sure thing as adding them to a 1940 A would require changing the engine as well as torque tube. It could be a tractor made from two or more doner tractors, could be someone has decaled it wrong. My suggestion to Eddie is check the various casting codes,(engine, steering box, transmission, final drives, etc.) X is 52, Y is 53, V was not used. Go back years from that, casting codes are probably a year or so before tractor was built. If he finds are all X or close to it then look hard for another diget in that serial. Also if casting codes are close (two consectutive years) you are quite sure you have an original tractor and not one made from parts. All Super A have 6 diget serial numbers. One other item Eddie, casting codes have day and month by number and year by letter. Looks like a screw cast in between each day, month and year.
