Big John & Steve, thanks a lot I tried connecting to the L terminal on the nippon alternator and I had charge. What I'm thinking is to put the L terminal on with the key. So when I turn on the key it's energized. The main bat terminal is always hot but I don't want to keep the L terminal hot, correct?

I believe it would be best to have an "idiot lite", resistor, or diode in the "L" lead that connects to switched power from the key switch.

You mean to hook up a light between the key and the L terminal? Would the light act as an indicator? On would mean it's working or not?

I was told the L meant light. in reply to Richard Fazio, 09-10-2004 03:48:52
On several import auto alts. there are L terminals, the rebuilder told me that goes to the idiot light to indicate if it's charging.
