How many of you guys have looked at the proposed changes in software here at YT. I am not qualified to explain. Looks a bit like the changes last year at Red Power. There is currently a vote taking place on the home page here at YT and as of 7 pm EDT only 14 people have voted. Better take a look.

This whole exercise of discussion on change is rather interesting. Looking at this thread, the one Cowman started above and the one Rusty started over on Tractor Talk page, I have, at 62 years of age a few comments about change and the results I've seen from change.

Change has made the rich, wealthy. It has taken the middle income person into the poor catergory. A few in the middle income group who stayed the course and didn't buy every bell and whistle that came along, became wealthy. One of the problems I see with all of this, most folks don't know to which group they belong. Yes we have a lot of folks out there with debt and assets equal, who think they have arrived.

If this proposal is anything like the Red Power forum, forget it. I tried the Red Power forum some time back and gave up because it is too slow. Have mercy on us that can't get DSL or Cable modem!!!

I'm with you Hugh, let it the way it is. I like the way the old forum loads and shows all the messages. Sometimes older is better. Later.

CNKS: What do you mean 200 people had voted as of last week? So what was the count then? This whole damn thing is starting to look like a SNOW JOB.

What I see being proposed looks slow and clumsy. I,like you and a couple dozen others spend a lot of our senior years time giving out our vast amount information based on our years of experience and knowledge gathered mainly from the school of hard knocks. I can tell you one thing right now. If I can't come on discussion forum Farmall page and look over every new subject posted in the past 24 hours, in 5 minutes, I will not be here. I just don't have that kind of time. I like helping people, and the way it is now, about 5 min will alert me, if I can help, anyone and who I can help. I just don't have hours to do that. I do have other things I do with my life.

I don't remember the number, but the poll has been there over a week -- I ignored it for a while, then voted, and there were more votes than you said -- that's why I thought it started over. Same thing happened with the favorite brand of tractor a year or so ago. I remain opposed to the new style unless Kim can speed it up. This way is much faster.

Hugh, I agree 100% that the old format is much easier to navigate. While I realize that Kim is always trying to streamline things to our satisfaction, I don"t see the new format as an improvement. If it isnt easy or fast, folks wont use it. That is what has been the downfall ofd so many other related forums.

I did see the poll on the homepage but didn't vote because I don't have a clue on what I am voting on, someone tell me how to find out.

There's no hurry. We're going to leave it up for a month and let people decide if they want to switch or not. We'll have an official poll in about a month.

The newer style is easier to manage, but the old forums are easier for me to modify and maintain. So I'm fine either way... this all came about due to requests from others...

We're just trying it on for size, not meant to alarm anyone or force changes where they aren't wanted.

Thanks,
Kim

This is a very fast forum--all the login ones I have seen are slow -- so far including your example -- I hope you can speed it up somehow. There are no problems with that type forum otherwise. I particularly like the option to elimiate all the smilely faces, etc that some people like to amuse themselves with.

ALL the other forum sites I belong to allow you to remain logged in from a particular computer indefinitely.

Frankly, this forum site is clunky and difficult to navigate compared to more typical forum sites out there.

Kim: Am I to assume you are planning on operating two complete and separate forums. I have this site bookmarked two different ways on Netscape and also Explorer. I had never seen the alert on Netscape. Today I was on Explorer for another purpose so decided to click to YT that way which I rarely do, and there is the big alert on proposed changes. I would like to know more.

Hugh, for now at least the new forum doesn't allow you to post with netscape. works fine with exploder, though. I believe Kim is looking into the netscape problem.

I am hopeful that what ever proposed changes take place, that simple operators like myself are able to cope.As some one stated elsewhere I am not a teenager so I do not know all of the ins and outs of computers. If it gets real complicated I will probably need to drop off of this wonderful site.I thoroughly enjoy it just as it is.Even if others think it is old fashioned it suits me fine as is. Maybe the only permanent thing in in life is change.

You will do OK chief. Not to worry. I don't know what changes are in store but whatever happens, happens. Nothing lasts forever, except perhaps, Farmall tractors.
