Hi, Does anybody know a site where I can buy a new crankcase breather oil filler cap for a 1948 Farmall cub??? My manual says you can repack the oil filler cap with aluminum crimp filler. Does anyone know where to get this ??? I have a little smoke coming out of my breather cap is this normal??? Will this reduce the smoke that is coming out of the breather cap. Thanks Bill

Bill,
The aluminum crimp material is the same that is used in kitchen range hood filters. These can be found at box stores like Homer Despot or Lowes. I cut them into 2"x6" strips, crumple them up into a rope shape and feed it into the inside of the breather cap and use an old coat hanger with a 1/2" horseshoe like hook on the end of it to help push it down and around the shoulder of the breather cap. Another substance that can be used is a copper pot scrubber available at most groceries or WallyWorld. With either make sure you don't loose any down the filler pipe. This won't eliminate the smoke.

I don't know a source, that does not mean there isn't one. If it were mine I would just soak it in parts cleaner and use it. A little smoke is "normal", a lot of smoke means you have blow-by, not necessarily a problem unless it uses a lot of oil. Fumes and vapors are supposed to exit form that vent.
