Front Hydraulic Lift Dips at Throttle Advancement

My newly acquired 1959 model 140 does a curious thing. When you move from nearly full throttle to wide open throttle, the front hydraulic lift dips down about 5% travel from the all the way up position. Pull the throttle back and the front hydraulic arm moves back to the all up position. Ram the throttle to the stop again and the front hydraulic arm immediately dips down a couple of inches or so.

I can't remember if the Super As and 140s I drove as a boy had that same tendency. Anyone know what is happening with the throttle/hydraulic dance routine?

Bill: Just to add one more item to what Bus Driver and Jim said. On my 130 the dash panel itself is getting a bit ripe and even with bolts in place as Jim suggests it will do the same as yours. My dash is rusted quite badly at bottom. Looks not bad, but I can reach through steering wheel, grab standard that supports steering shaft, a pull or a push will change hydraulics as well as throttle.

The adjustment of the hydraulic levers is quite simple. Just adjust so you have no labouring of engine from hydraulic function when lever is at either end of travel. This is quite easy to hear.

Along the line of what Bus Driver said, the battery box should have 2 bolts that go into the "back" side of the instrument panel. If they are not in place, the panel (which supports the control levers) can move forward and back. That movement will move the hydraulic controls.

This problem is caused by misadjustment of the hydraulic system control linkages. Get a repair manual and adjust exactly as the manual instructs. It was so long ago that I do not recall the exact procedure, but it was easy to do.
