One problem is the shift pattern itself. You have to shift through low every time you want to go from high to reverse. The fix there is to install a 56, 26, or 66 series shift kit. Costs about $500 and takes a little work, but is so much nicer. The 56, 26, and 66 sereis tractors had high, low, and reverse laid out in an h-pattern. Now, on the grinding. They will all grind if you don't take the time to shift them. The proper way to do it is to start out with a properly ajusted clutch, TA, and transmission brake linkage. When shifting the Range Transmission (high, low, reverse), you must come to a complete stop. Push in the clutch pedal about 3/4 of the way and apply the brakes. Then, push the clutch pedal all the way down to engage the transmission brake. Now shift. You don't need to worry about all of this when shifting the Speed Transmisson (1-2-3-4), with a little practice, you'll be able to shift those gears on the move without grinding.
