I hear about people turning ur their tractors to give out more horse power. Do u only have to turn up the fuel pump/carb of do u have to do more to the tractors.

Most people turning up tractors are turning up the injector pump. 4020 JD used to the easiest to turn up. As for a gas tractor, my Dad was telling me on his old M he could turn the high speed jet and get more fuel and it would give a few more ponies. Being realistic, if you need a lot more power, if cannot be done and last long.

I wouldn't think it would hurt a thing to grab another 200 or 300 rpm or so over specs. IH did it when they upgraded models. Lots of guys set the peak RPM by ear and you know we don't all hear as good as we used to. Don't do it on a tired tractor. You could use a tach to set the rpm. Use moderation.

Neighbor did it to his TW-25 this spring. It Blew up shortly thereafter. Mechanic thought they may have done too much work on there own , without proper supervison.

I think the thing here may be power vs longevity. Pullers can turn up the governor to give allkinds of RPMs but for how long? I don't know because Ihaven't done it . For info on turning up a gas engine go to puller forum, lots of good info there.

The expression you heard more often applies to the injector pump on a diesel engine. You can increase the governor speed on a gas engine, but I wouldn't. The carb can't be "turned up". It can be slightly adjusted for more fuel, but not as much as a diesel injector pump can.
