How do I check the fluids in the transmission of a Farmall A, and how do I open the fill plugs? By the way, where are the drain plugs, going to drain all the fluids while I restore it.

And, are the rebuilt carburetors on this page already adjusted? I might need a new one.

You need to get a manual. It will tell you where are all the drain plugs and a lot of other valuable info. You need this especially if you are going to restore the tractor. Three places to change transmission fluid, 2 final drive housings and one transmission/differential housing. No drains on the final drives. You have to drop the pans. Get new gaskets first. Refill to bottom of fill holes. Use a 1/2 inch drive socket handle to get the plugs out. Transmission drain is under th bottom of transmission at rear of tractor. Not on the pto housing. Level plug is on left hand side behind the brake rod, at front of transmission. Transmission holds 5 quarts I believe (better check that, my memory is not the best) Don't recall the final drives, but I think about 1 quart each.

haas, Final drives are 1 1/2 qt. if my memory serves me correctly. I would also suggest to anonymous (for what reason?) that he or she get a parts manual, operators manual and service manual, as they will provide a wealth of information especially for a restoration as opposed to a single mechanical or maintainance issue.
