I have a farmall M that makes a light clunking noise when driving or when PTO is in gear. PTO seal went out when noise was first heard, pulled PTO shaft out, and still same noise. Looks like hydraulic pump coupler is loose, has some slop in it, and sounds like same noise, but hard to tell. Any suggestions? Thanks. Hoss

If you take the coupler out, youll have to drop the pump enoguh to get it out,or at least I do anyways. All three of mine made that noise even with the pump out,one of the shaft bearings was going bad so I chaned boht, noise gone.

Upon further inspection, I have found out that it is somewhere in the hysler overdrive. It makes no noise on the high side, but makes the noise on the low side. I dropped out the belly pump, and the coupler and pump are fine. The only way to get at the hysler is probably to take off the top cover, true? Thanks. hoss

I"d suggest take the pump coupler out, see if it stops. If it"s loose it should be easy to take out. Just a couple of cotter pins and slide the collars to the middle, right?
But the part about the pto shaft sounds suspect. You might wind up taking the cover off the rear end. Wm
