I'm a newbie posting to this forum. I've been reading it for a few months and gotten alot of useful information that I thank all of you for providing. I had an 801 Ford until about a month ago and last week replaced it with a 53 Cub. It seems completely original, is in good condition and all there. On to the question: I was adjusting the governor yesterday, throttle rod to governor shaft, and then went to the right side of the tractor to look at the speed screw that the manual mentioned. The Speed Screw is safety wired. The book doesn't mention this. Is this one of those "don't touch" adjustment points or is it an if you do adjust it wire it back up to lock it in place? I haven't seen anything else on the tractor that has a safety wire on it. Thanks again for all your help, past, present, future.
Dave

All Cubs (as other models) came with a "don't touch" wire seal on the speed adjustment screw. You have to remove it to make adjustments.

Thanks for the info.
This thing was drilled and wired so neatly it looks to be factory done. Even has a silver solder 'seal' at the ends of the wire. You certainly don't see anything this neat at the race track. I'll do some adjusting this evening.

Dave:

Enjoy. Let me know what transpires. Before you change anything, can you take a pic of the screw? Something that neat would be nice to see.

You can email me off board if you wish or have other questions.

Any original "A" or "B" that I've worked on has had the high idle stop screw secured from the factory with wire with a crimped lead seal on it.

Thanks for the input guys. I didn't get to it last evening so I'll take a pic tonight before I touch anything. It'll be a while before I can get the image out, we haven't joined the digital age of cameras yet.
