Going to look at a 1975 IH 574 gas w/a loader. Any problems areas with this model that I should pay close attention to? Are parts readily available?

I just bought a 574 myself with IH loader. Id just repeat what the others have said..great tractor, but it sure is hot! You can replace the manifold to make it exhaust out the top, which im considering doing..but not till after winter. Ill want that heat when its 6 am and Im plowing snow.

I have one that has put alot of hrs. in the hay field . It will run all day on a little fuel . Have a 2250 IH OT loader and it needs extra rear weight when doing much . Have used it to load 30 in.x16ft. oak and poplar logs without a problem . I`d buy another one . Very handy tractor , got mine in the shop givin it a makeover now .

We have a 2500A industrial and man it really gets hot, like Harold said. It has a fully enclosed operator cab with a loader on it. On a -10 to -20 degree day, it will melt the snow and ice off of the windows and the roof within 20 minutes of running. By the time I am done cleaning our driveway(about 200 feet long and 20 feet wide) I have to take off my jacket and just wear a T-Shirt! Also, in the summer, even with the doors off, you sweat so much you stick to the seat! Just so that you don't make the same mistake I did, DO NOT USE THE TOOLBOX!!! I was using the tractor to crimp hay and I put extra shearpins in the tool box. When one broke, I flipped open the cover and grabbed a repacement shear pin. It was so hot, it scalded my hand and I dropped it into the field. I poured my water bottle on it, and it made steam!!! As a loader though, I have no complaints. It has the strongest hydraulics I have ever seen, has one of the best shift patterns and gear ratios for loader work, and is only limited by the weight of the tractor. If you are doing loader work in a muddy area though, consider getting weights for the back and some fluid. Also, if it has it, use the differential lock, it really works. I don't know what we would do without ours, its overall a great tractor.

HOT!! Got to be the hottest tractor I have ever driven. You are tucked down inside that loader frame, with the engine heat blowing back at you, and that saddle tank and other sheet metal blocking any airflow out the back. The muffler under the floorboard under your left foot just adds to the misery. If you are not planning to put in long hours on it in the hayfield that's not such a big deal. For pushing snow in the winter it's a real positive.

One thing to check is the parking brake. Make sure it hasn't already been burnt out by leaving it on, and if you buy the tractor make sure the warning light for the parking brake always works. Replacing that brake band is a two day job.

Otherwise I think they are pretty good tractors. If it is the big IH loader it will be kind of helpless without some weight on the back, the loader is pretty heavy itself, even without anything in the bucket.

GAF, I have a 1978 diesel 574 with a qik-tac loader and 4000hrs. Used for everything from haying to plowing snow. Very handy and quite powerful. The power steering piston up front leaks and flops around. The bolts holding the torque tube to the rear end need lock washers. The front end requires occational attention. Keep good tires on it for loader work. Some of them get cranky in third gear high range. Good luck, have fun! Jared
