have been having a little trouble with my h, doesn't want to idle down after moving throttle. it will come down to around 800-1000rpm but no lower, this happens after using the throttle. when i first start it, it will idle just fine until you speed it up. is this a linkage issue or adjustment to gov, gov works great, no surging, or any other issue's there. also, how do you post pics on this board, have some from my first vintage tractor show.

Your problem is that the littel bushings that are SUPPOSE to be in the govener linkage where the spring goes are long gone and when you push the throttel to idel it will not go all the way as there is to much slop. I have a clock maker that is a good freind of mine and and old customer of mine that rebushes the two arms with bronze and when we are done the govener works like it suppose to. He had the same problem with his S/MTA and we did it on one rainny day and he could not beleive how well that tractor runs now.

ernz, could be your governor control spring is to tight,it should not have any tension on it when the throttle is set at idle, also you may want to check the throttle control rod and be sure the tang is in the notch that operates the butterfly valve. Hope this helps. Ed

A couple things to try - Does the air adjustment screw have any effect if you turn it when the motor is running at low rpm ? If you remove the linkage between the governor and the carburator, and close the throttle by hand, does it idle down ? Is the governor or governor linkage sloppy ?
