I have a 966 with a torque amplifier. I was dragging with it the other night and everything was ok. I parked it and the next time I tried to use it it wouldn"t move. My brother tried it the next day and it was ok. It goes in gear ok and tries to move but doesn"t. Then it goes away. Any ideas?

It sounds to me that you are losen prime on the MCV pump and if the low side will slip when in road gear it is getting time for a new t/a and a rebuild on the MCV and a new MCV pump. Ya need to get a pressure rearing on the MCV and see just where you are on the pressure and if it does not want to pick up the for now you can cheet a littel buy adding a couple of gallons of Hy Tran as this will help with the prime problem ,

I have a 966 that does this to me sometimes. It turned out to be the shift linkage. Remove the front console plate and watch the linkage. The F-R/H-L lever can get out of place and it"s riding in a "neutral spot .

Need to know a couple more things first. If your transmission oil pressure light works, is it on when the tractor dosen't move? Did your TA work in both ranges before, and does it make a difference what range you have the lever in now? How's your clutch pedal free travel? Any possibility the clutch is out? Making sure the Speed Transmission (1-2-3-4) is in gear, engine running, try to shift the Range Transmission (HI-LO-R) into gear with the clutch pedal up. If you can get it into gear, then the TA or clutch is at fault, normally it shoud grind like crazy. Fluid level, filter, any other steering or brake problems? Do you have the type of wheels that clamp to the axle, using two nuts on each side of the wheel to hold the clamp tight? It is very common for the nuts to break, causing the clamp to loosen, which allows the axle to spin in the wheel. However, I would think that you would notice that the wheel had moved in toward the platform if this was the problem. Just for the fun of it, start the tractor, put it in gear, and push the brake pedals one at a time. If the tractor moves with one pedal held down, that would indicate a problem in the final drive or loose wheel mounting hardware on the side for which you are holding the pedal

K.B.-826 The light doesn't work. Low in the ta slipped in high gear on road before. The clutch is only about a year old. It will shift the range or the speed transmission either one with the clutch up when it won't move. It's not a lose wheel or anything in the rear end because I dragged with it yesterday and it was ok. it doesn't steer well when it's hot and at or just above idle.

Frank, It concerns me that you can shift the range transmission with the clutch pedal out. Normally, you can shift the Speed transmission with the tractor not moving and the clutch pedal out since it is a sliding-gear trasmission, but the Range transmssion is a collar-shift and should grind like crazy and be impossible to shift with the clutch pedal up. Sounds like your MCV, MCV pump, and TA are going to need some work. Get someone with the gauges, a Flow-Rater, and the manual to check it out.
