I need to know what are the grain settings are. I have lost the metal grain plate that used to be in the inside of the drill. I will pay for your information.

Lets try again -

If you have an MF, look at abebooks(dot)com and search for mccormick grain drills. I have a manual for an MF. It shows the seeding rate adjusted with a small gear that is set against a cone shaped cluster of (drive, I suppose) gears. That manual has a chart for setting seeding rates, etc.

Thanks for the response. I have bought two books via the Internet, but they will take at least a week to arrive, and I need the settings today. Could you be so kind as to tell me what the settings are in the book for wheat? I am planting fifty pounds or quarts per acre. What size sprocket will I need. I would like you to call you, but this is a public forum, and as such, I do not want any one's privacy compromised.

Thanks Greg for taking the time to send me the specs that I needed. They were exactly what I needed. I've had these drills only a couple of years and always used a guide that was on the lid of the drill, The lettering was getting light but could still be read,until I went to get to drill ready for seeding and the lid of the drill blew open during the winter and the lettering was completly gone. So I Thank You for helping me out. Wayne

I hope that this is not too late. I know how it goes sometimes, timing is everything. I spent all day digging potatoes and did not look at the computer.

This might be a little hard without the illustration. Gear C moves up and down when the latch B is set in the notches to select the correct gear on the cone shaped cluster. Sprocket A looks like it runs the chain to the feed shaft. There is also a cover on the feed mechanism in the bottom of the hopper.

If you ahve an 8 tooth sprocket A, the most you can plant is 42 Qts. / acre with gear C set by latch B in notch 10. If you have a 16 tooth sprocket A, setting latch B in notch 4 will give you 48 qts./acre and notch 5 will give you 54 qts./acre. In all of the above cases, the cover on the feed mechanism goes on the left side (it appears to be the wider side).
