I have a 41 H. The farmer I bought it from said he ran gas in it. So have I. I finally checked the serial number against the parts catalog and the serial number suffix is X3 (kerosene). I looked through the engine parts list section and can"t see any parts in the H engine which would distinguish gas from kerosene.

Is there any difference between the kerosene and gas engine? Should I return to running kerosene if the X3 designation is correct?

Buy a parts manual, it will tell you which parts you need. The head, pistons, sleeves, mainfold, etc are different. It can be converted to the X1 series (gasoline) if you wish. No, don't run it on kerosene, use gas, it will be fine.

Even the valves were different in the kerosene & distillate engines because the combustion chamber in the head were different depths.

My understanding is that the X1 engine (gas only) has higher compression. $.02 worth..... .....
