Super C hydraulics troubleshooting

I bought a Super C from a widowed neighbor. It was her late husband's pride and joy. After he died the kid took it to deer camp and brought it back several years later sadly neglected. I've got it running and to my shop, but the hydraulics aren't working. It has oil a couple af inches below the filler plug, but nothing works. Any suggestions on the most simple way to determine if the pump is good or bad? There are all hard lines between the reservoir and the pump. This tractor has the rock shaft above the clutch housing and another valve on the side that operates the fast hitch. My email is open if anyone can get me started. Where is the serial number supposed to be? Thanks much..Gene

First, the ser. number should be on a tag on the right side of the tool box below the seat. I think I would drain the hydraulic res, and hoses, replace with IH Hytrans to the hole. Leave the levers in the rear position, and activate the touch control valves back and forth a doz times to bleed the sysem. Top off the reservior and do this again. If the hitch still won't lower or raise, remove the pump, and check to make sure it has a woodruff key. Take the pump apart and replace the orings. If it still doesn't work, then you may need to rebuild the cylinder. Not a real tough job, but one where you'll need proper diagrams, and take maticulous care to keep all the parts in order... Good luck

The suction/pressure lines rise above the reservoir level as they go forward to the pump. Can I assume that the pump has to suck oil up and over the hump to prime itself? If so, I can see where bad o-rings could create a suction loss and the pump not get oil. Another question...can you briefly describe how the hydraulics work the rockshaft (for lack of a better term)? There are two levers next to the throttle that appear to control some sort of valves under the hydraulic reservoir. Thanks for your patience, Gene
